What the Coupert extension does on your Shopify store, and how to control it
The Coupert extension tests codes at your checkout and pays shoppers for working codes it lacks. What it does on Shopify, what it costs, what you control.

In short
It's Monday after your creator's weekend push. You open the affiliate report: Coupert, a cashback publisher, has credit for a run of orders carrying the creator's code. Support forwards a Leeds customer's ticket about a refused code from a coupon pop-up.
In your team channel, someone pastes Friday's terms change about who gets credit after a shopper clicks. You can't tell which orders the publisher started, how it got your code or who to contact.
This guide covers what the Coupert extension does on your Shopify store, where it gets your codes, what it costs, what its new stand-down clause means for your partners, and what you can control before peak.
What does the extension do on a Shopify store?#
On supported stores, the Coupert extension pops up with codes, tests them when the shopper clicks at checkout and applies the best one. It also offers affiliate-funded cash back, price comparisons and paid offers after purchase.
It is used in the UK as well as the US. Coupert's Awin programme lists UK users; Apple's stores showed 6,537 UK ratings against 25,021 US ratings on 17 October 2026, which are ratings, not users; its help centre describes UK cash back partnerships. This coupon extension runs in your shopper's browser. Chrome's listing says it "activates automatically on supported stores" and tests every available code, applying the best. [Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) The help page captured in June 2026 describes an automatic notification, then an "Apply Coupons" click. [Coupert Help Center, Jun 2026] (opens the source) Another help page says it applies coupons only when shoppers actively engage, and its terms describe testing "where technically supported and initiated by you". The pop-up is automatic; the test click is the shopper's. [Coupert Help Center, Mar 2026] (opens the source) [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
Its terms say its coupon list, cash back button and price panel aren't part of your site. Its privacy policy of 16 October says that on a supported store it reads the page URL, product details, displayed prices including the checkout price, affiliate cookies, whether codes worked, and order information such as the merchant's confirmation. Your developer should read that alongside your own checkout tracking. [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
The Edge package declares page scripts for every HTTP and HTTPS site; Firefox requests access to data for all websites. Coupert's policy says it operates only on supported shopping or subscription sites. Its price-comparison help, captured in March 2026, describes checking other retailers automatically while you view a product and offering a click to switch to the cheaper store. 3,000,000
Chrome users on the main listing on 17 October 2026, with the version updated that week.
That day's Edge label read 1,500,000+ users; its product data gave 1,576,906 active installs. Firefox showed 210,955 users. These aren't additive counts. [Microsoft Edge Add-ons, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Mozilla Add-ons, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Android showed 1M+ downloads and describes Accessibility Service testing in Chrome; the iPhone app offers savings in Safari. Coupert says it supplied Edge's built-in coupons from 2021 to 2025. [Coupert, Sep 2026] (opens the source) Hello Partner reported Microsoft's retirement notice on 30 May 2025; Coupert's release dates retirement to 31 May. [Hello Partner, May 2025] (opens the source) [Coupert via Send2Press, May 2025] (opens the source) Its Awin programme also pays publishers up to $20 per new desktop order to recruit users, not a merchant commission rate. An 18 October Shopify App Store search found no app from Coupert to uninstall, unlike the partner app covered in what the Capital One Shopping extension does on your store. [Shopify App Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Coupert's directory page collects its sources and contacts.
Where does it get your codes?#
From public promotions, network offers, merchant-approved or partner-distributed codes, and reviewed shopper submissions. When its checkout test finds nothing working, it pays for a valid code it lacked; approved submissions are tested on other shoppers. [Coupert Help Center, Mar 2026] (opens the source) [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Coupert Help Center, Jun 2026] (opens the source)
Its terms describe collecting public coupons online or from partner retailers; Coupert told a Trustpilot reviewer it collects codes rather than creating them. [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Trustpilot, Nov 2025] (opens the source)
$3
paid per valid first code submission for a store after its checkout test finds nothing working, up to $30 per shopper, as of October 2026. Verification takes up to 5 business days.
Its missed-coupon reward page asks shoppers not to submit one-time or private codes, such as personal or employee-only ones. Some merchants disallow submissions and are ineligible, but the page doesn't explain how your store joins them. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) A June 2026 help capture says approved submissions enter its database for automatic testing on other shoppers. [Coupert Help Center, Jun 2026] (opens the source) Submissions also come through its pop-up; submission points ended on 11 September 2026. Coupert says it rejects private, personalised or unauthorised codes. [Coupert Help Center, Aug 2026] (opens the source)
Your settings still matter: a shared newsletter, creator or staff code works for anyone typing it unless you restrict eligibility. That's a route for a discount code leak, regardless of submission rules. Coupert says it doesn't hide valuable codes for merchants and ranks offers regardless of partnerships, so partnering isn't a route to keeping yours off it. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
What does it cost your store?#
Merchants fund it: the affiliate commission they pay covers its cash back, and Coupert keeps an unpublished share. If it's in your programme, you pay commission on the orders it's credited with; if it isn't, you pay no commission but still pay the discount on any code it applies. Coupert says it doesn't set commission rates. [Coupert Help Center, Mar 2026] (opens the source)
Its own November 2025 article describes retailer commission as typically 2–15%, without a merchant rate card. [Coupert, Nov 2025] (opens the source) In September 2026, Coupert claimed code testing at 200,000+ stores and cash back at 15,000+: on those figures, most tested stores have no cash back deal. [Coupert, Sep 2026] (opens the source) It also sells the moment after your checkout to other advertisers. [Coupert Help Center, Sep 2026] (opens the source)
Run your figures through the coupon extension cost calculator.
There's another side, and it has limits. Coupert says your network or merchant rules decide attribution. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Across 35 extensions and 67 million journeys, CJ's 2023 study with Namogoo reports 65% more revenue per session with a pre-checkout pop and 0.5% additional discount among extension users. [CJ and Namogoo, Nov 2023] (opens the source) CJ earns on credited sales; Coupert isn't named, and this compares pop with no pop among extension users, not with everyone else. PMG says extensions operate within programme parameters: your rules decide what gets paid. [PMG, Aug 2025] (opens the source)
What does its new stand-down clause mean for your affiliate partners?#
Since 16 October 2026, its terms say it pauses when it detects arrival through another party's tracking link. Your shopper can end that pause by clicking its icon; using a feature then routes through its affiliate link and may change credit. [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
16 Oct 2026
the date its terms and privacy policy gained stand-down sections.
The 5 October terms and 3 October privacy captures had none. [Internet Archive, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Internet Archive, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
| Document | What changed on 16 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Terms of Use | Gained the stand-down (s.3.1), on-page elements that aren't part of your site (s.3.2) and a background-tab redirect (s.3.3). The 13 March 2026 version had none of them. [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source) |
| Privacy policy | Gained s.3.3.1, on how it detects and logs a referral. The 29 December 2025 version had no such subsection. [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source) |
| Help centre | Its affiliate tracking, pinned tabs and December 2024 statement pages were revised. Their earlier wording wasn't captured. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) |
Section 3.1 says it "pauses its features there", but shoppers "can end the stand-down by clicking the extension icon". After feature use: "This may change which party receives credit for your purchase." It adds: "Final attribution is determined by the merchant or affiliate network, not by Coupert." [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
The privacy policy describes reading redirect chains, affiliate URL parameters and cookies, with CJ and LinkShare/Rakuten as pattern examples, then logging detected referrals. Ask your network whether its click is recognised: examples aren't a complete list, and your first-party creator link may look different. [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
Its help centre lists coupon application, cash back activation and merchant-specific savings features as tracking triggers. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) A pinned tab may open an affiliate partner's tracking page without taking focus; its terms describe a background tab closing automatically. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
Its December 2025 blog describes "soft cookies" and says "Coupert won't interfere" with a partner referral. [Coupert, Dec 2025] (opens the source) Its pinned-tabs page qualifies that: feature use "may affect an attribution that already existed for that merchant". [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
In Coupert's stated flow, your shopper arrives through a creator, the extension stays quiet, then they click its icon and "Apply Coupons" at checkout. The creator's commission depends on which click your network credits. Read last-click attribution, stand-down and the cookie stuffing guide before changing your terms.
Chrome's rules, enforced since 10 June 2025, require action before affiliate links, codes or cookies and prohibit coupon extensions inserting a link without finding a discount. They don't require stand-down; "Apply Coupons" supplies user action. [Chrome for Developers, Mar 2025] (opens the source) [Chrome for Developers, Mar 2025] (opens the source)
On 17 October Chrome's listing reported "no history of violations"; an 18 October ASA search found no rulings. What can you control on your storefront, and what at checkout?#
You can detect and hide pop-ups in your storefront theme. No app can change what an extension shows inside Shopify checkout, so your checkout control is which codes work.
Theme app extensions inject JavaScript and CSS into Online Store 2.0 without theme-code edits. [Shopify developer docs, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Checkout UI extensions run separately in a sandbox without checkout HTML access. [Shopify developer docs, Jul 2026] (opens the source) In-checkout checkout.liquid stopped working from 13 August 2024. Stores missing the 26 August 2026 Thank you and Order status upgrade deadline were upgraded automatically. [Shopify Changelog, Feb 2023] (opens the source) [Shopify Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Plus allows advanced customisation, but its UI extensions run in the same sandbox. AI answers get this part wrong. One answer recorded on 18 October 2026 described a merchant blacklist in a portal, which Coupert's store guidance doesn't mention. [Coupert Help Center, Apr 2024] (opens the source) [Coupert Help Center, Dec 2024] (opens the source) Another suggested requesting domain stand-down, which its terms don't offer. [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Advice to edit checkout files or hide extensions there conflicts with Shopify's sandbox.
The storefront and checkout guide explains your options in each place.
What can you do without an app?#
You can check held codes, restrict eligibility, change programme terms and measure results. Give each action an owner before your freeze.
-
See which codes it holds. Your affiliate manager uses the free code check, which asks Coupert, Honey, Capital One Shopping, Rakuten and major voucher sites what they hold, as they do at checkout, without installation. Coupert's directory page has its sources and contacts in one place. The catch: held codes don't identify your affected orders.
-
Tighten the codes it can find. Your discounts owner moves private offers to unique or single-use codes; Shopify permits 20,000,000 unique codes per store. [Shopify Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Shared codes get "Limit number of times this discount can be used in total", "Limit to one per customer" (email or phone), and an end date. [Shopify Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Eligibility allows specific customers or up to 100 segments. [Shopify Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Replace exposed codes; see stopping leaks and unique versus shared codes. The catch: creators can't read unique codes in videos; shared codes keep working until ended, exactly the kind its $3 reward pays shoppers to submit. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
-
Find it in each programme. Your affiliate manager searches publisher lists for Singapore site operator COUPERT PTE. LTD., Chrome/Android/iPhone publisher Coupert Science LLC, Edge publisher Coupert Limited and Coupert's stated European operator Coupert Science UK Ltd. [Coupert Help Center, Nov 2025] (opens the source) [Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Google Play, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Apple App Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Microsoft Edge Add-ons, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Coupert names CJ, LinkShare and Awin policies. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Check last quarter's commission, unissued codes and your code-only crediting, rate caps and stand-down terms. Coupert acknowledges rejected cash back for unauthorised codes, void rewards on reversed commission and no commission on invalidated transactions. [Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source) [Trustpilot, Jan 2026] (opens the source) Practitioner Ishtvan Torpoi's general test suggests a 0.5% cap, one unique code and 1–2 months. [Hello Partner, Jan 2026] (opens the source) Use agreement terms and partner testing before peak rate increases and your code freeze. The catch: removal ends commission, not the extension; rejections depend on network validation windows.
-
Write if you want codes changed. Your affiliate manager emails [email protected] with store name, website, requested details, its store-page link and a screenshot; partnerships go to [email protected]. [Coupert Help Center, Apr 2024] (opens the source) [Coupert Help Center, Dec 2024] (opens the source) The catch: no published removal or opt-out form or submission-exclusion route; removed codes still work for holders.
-
Check your apps and checkout flow. Your developer tests an order in a clean browser and checks unexpected pop-ups, codes and leftover discount apps in your theme.
The catch: one browser doesn't show every shopper's experience.
- Measure which orders it starts. Your growth lead runs a holdout: randomly chosen eligible shoppers keep the existing experience. Haus's 2023 case study found no revenue change after one DTC brand stopped US cash back and reward partners for 7 weeks; Haus sells testing, and Coupert wasn't named. [Haus, May 2023] (opens the source) The catch: small stores need weeks; a November start won't read before Cyber Monday.
The same controls apply to Honey; coupon extensions 101 gives you the reading path.
How Benson handles the extension on your store#
Benson does each of these jobs on your own store, from the Shopify App Store.
See your sessions and codes. Free includes extension detection and observe mode: which coupon extensions your shoppers run, Coupert among them, by session, and what Benson would hide, changing nothing on your store. The Checkout rules page lists codes used most in extension sessions. Code watch shows whether a leaked code is contained, replaced, or whether its replacement is spreading.
Hide storefront pop-ups. Block, on Stop and above, covers home, product, collection, search, cart and the cart drawer, with schedule, country, source, device and page rules and a holdout.
Set your code policy. On Stop and above, only allowlisted codes work in extension sessions; others receive a short message. Customers without an extension who type the code you sent still receive the discount. On Shopify no app can change what an extension shows inside checkout, so the protection there works on the codes. It's live through the App Store app.
Check your partners' credit. On Stop and above, attribution integrity shows the affiliate id, click id or UTM source a shopper arrived with, overwrites after the cart, the extension detected in that session and the estimated commission moved at your rates. Under Affiliates → Integrity, hourly checks open cases when an extension was present as a partner click was replaced. Checks and counts are free; Stop and above supplies cases, sessions, orders, commission, printable evidence packs and CSVs carrying your order numbers for network matching. Read how the checks work and the affiliate integrity track to establish whether its click replaced your partner's on your store.
Review your deal. Record Coupert's agreement, read how often it joins after cart through attribution integrity on Stop and above, then keep, renegotiate or cut. The partner deal playbook follows that decision.
Every control can run against a holdout on your store.
Before peak, add Benson from the Shopify App Store and leave it in observe mode through a normal week.
Questions merchants ask
- Can you block Coupert on a Shopify store?
- You can hide its storefront pop-ups. No app can change what the Coupert extension shows inside Shopify checkout, where your control is which codes work.
- How does Coupert make money?
- Merchants pay affiliate commission: part goes to shoppers as cash back and Coupert keeps the rest. It also shows paid offers from other brands after purchases.
- Where does Coupert get its coupon codes?
- Public promotions, network offers, merchant-approved codes and shopper submissions reviewed before display. When its checkout test finds nothing working, it pays 3 US dollars for a valid first submission for a store, up to 30 US dollars per shopper.
- Does Coupert stand down for affiliate links?
- Since 16 October 2026, its terms say it pauses when it detects arrival through another party's tracking link. The shopper can end that pause by clicking its icon; subsequent feature use routes through its own link, which it says may change who gets credit.
- Can I ask Coupert to remove my store or my codes?
- There's no published removal form. Store information requests go to [email protected] and partnerships to [email protected]. A removed code still works for anyone holding it unless you change its settings.
- Is Coupert legit?
- It's a real, affiliate-funded company whose Chrome listing reported no history of violations on 17 October 2026. For your store, the useful questions are which orders it starts and which codes it holds.
