Getting started#

How long does it take to set up?#

About two minutes. Add your store in Benson, install the Shopify app or paste one snippet, and open your store. The setup wizard turns green as soon as Benson sees the first page view. Extension data starts arriving as shoppers browse; a day of normal traffic gives you a useful picture. The first two weeks playbook walks you through what to do next.

Can I see Benson work before a shopper arrives?#

Yes. Open See it yourself in your dashboard. Your store opens with a simulated coupon pop-up only you can see, and you watch Benson recognise it and hide it. Nothing is stored. See Test Benson on your store.

Which platforms does Benson work on?#

Shopify (as an app), plus any store where you can add a script: WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, and custom or headless builds. See the install guides.

Which extensions does Benson detect?#

Coupon and cashback extensions including PayPal Honey, Capital One Shopping, Rakuten, RetailMeNot, Karma, Pouch, Piggy, Klarna, CouponCabin and Coupert. Detection signatures are updated without you redeploying anything. Some are marked as pending verification in your dashboard until our automated checks confirm them against the real extension.

Will Benson slow my store down?#

No. The script is about 2.5KB compressed, loads asynchronously, and loads its other parts when the browser is idle. It never blocks your page from rendering.

Not seeing data?#

These mirror the checks in the setup wizard, most likely first. The troubleshooting guide has more detail.

I use Google Tag Manager and nothing shows up#

Your container probably isn't published. Tags only reach shoppers after Submit → Publish; preview mode shows them to you alone, and Benson ignores preview traffic.

I installed the Shopify app but it isn't verified#

Open your theme editor, turn on App embeds → Benson, and click Save. The embed isn't live until the theme is saved.

My store might be cached#

Caching plugins and CDNs can serve an old copy of your pages. Purge the cache, then open your store again.

My store has a Content Security Policy#

Allow Benson's script and API hosts in script-src and connect-src. The exact lines are in Content Security Policy.

I'm using an ad blocker#

Blockers in your own browser can stop new scripts. Open your store in a private window with extensions turned off.

Strict consent is on#

With strict consent, Benson only measures a shopper after they accept your cookie banner. Accept it once on your store to verify. See Consent and storage.

Blocking and checkout#

What can Benson do at checkout?#

On Shopify, no app can change what an extension shows inside checkout, so Benson hides extension pop-ups on your storefront pages (home, product, collection, search, cart and the cart drawer). In checkout, checkout policies (Stop and above) make sure only allowlisted codes work in coupon-extension sessions. On other platforms, Benson's script runs on your checkout pages, so it can hide pop-ups there too.

What does observe mode do?#

It shows you what Benson would hide, without hiding anything. Every plan includes it, so you can see the effect of a rule before you switch it on.

Billing and plans#

What counts as a session?#

One visit by one shopper. A session ends after 30 minutes without activity, or after 24 hours. Your plan's quota counts sessions across all your sites.

What happens if I go over my quota?#

Nothing breaks. We email you when you're getting close and when you reach your limit, and everything stays on for 72 hours after that. After that, blocking and the widget pause until your next billing period or an upgrade, and detection keeps sampling.

I installed from Shopify. How am I billed?#

Through your Shopify bill, in US dollars. Stores that don't use the Shopify app pay by card. Full details are on Pricing.

How do I cancel?#

From Settings → Billing. Paid plans end at the end of the period you've paid for, and your data stays. Moving to the Free plan keeps detection running.

Your data#

Does Benson collect my shoppers' personal data?#

Storefront events contain no names, emails, addresses or phone numbers, and IP addresses are never stored. Benson uses a random session id, and only keeps anything beyond the tab where your consent settings allow it. See the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

How do I export or delete my data?#

Owners can export all workspace data, or delete the workspace, from Settings → Data.
