In short

A browser add-on that finds discount codes for the store a shopper is on and tries them at checkout, often earning affiliate commission on the order.

What it means

A coupon extension is a browser add-on that watches for a store's discount code field and offers the codes it holds for that store. Honey, the best-known one, says it pops up at checkout to test the codes it found, and applies a working one to the order.[Honey Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Its codes come from public promotions, affiliate networks and other shoppers. Capital One Shopping says it records the promo codes that work for its users and shares them with its other users.[Capital One Shopping Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Many also pay cash back, so one add-on can be a coupon extension and a cashback extension at once.

On your store

A shopper with an extension reaches your cart. A panel offers to find savings, tries several codes in your discount field and applies the one that works, which might be a code you emailed to one customer last spring.

Why it matters

An extension can put a discount on an order that would have paid full price, and its affiliate click can take the commission on that order too. Honey earns commission from merchants' affiliate programs and shares part of it with shoppers as rewards.[Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source)

What Benson does

Benson sees coupon-extension sessions on your storefront and measures their conversion rate, order value and discount depth. It hides extension pop-ups on storefront pages by rules you set.
