What Coupert does on your store
Coupert pops up on your store, tests the codes it holds at checkout and applies the best one, and it earns affiliate commission on the order. When it finds no working code, it pays shoppers to submit one.

Where does it get your codes?
Coupert says its codes come from public merchant promotions, affiliate-network offers, merchant-approved codes and codes its users submit, which it reviews before showing.[Coupert Help Center, Mar 2026] (opens the source) When its checkout test finds no working code, it pays the shopper $3 for each valid code they submit for that store, up to $30 per shopper, though it says some merchants don't allow user-submitted codes.[Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) So the codes it pays for are the ones its own sources missed.
Coupert isn't a defendant in any case we found. Creators suing Microsoft allege that Microsoft Shopping sourced coupons from partners including Coupert.[U.S. District Court, W.D. Wash., May 2025] (opens the source) That case is still open after a partial dismissal on 9 October 2026.[U.S. District Court, W.D. Wash., Oct 2026] (opens the source)
How does it make money from your orders?
Coupert says its cash back is funded by the affiliate commission merchants pay; it passes part to shoppers and keeps the rest.[Coupert Help Center, Mar 2026] (opens the source) It names CJ, LinkShare (Rakuten) and Awin as networks whose cookie policies it follows.[Coupert Help Center, Oct 2026] (opens the source) If it's in your affiliate program, an order where it applied a code can be credited to it under last-click attribution, whoever actually sent the shopper.
What does it do in a shopper's session?
Its Chrome Web Store listing says it switches on automatically on supported stores, tests every available code at checkout and applies the best one.[Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) That listing showed 3,000,000 users in October 2026.[Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) After a purchase on a supported store, it may show the shopper a pop-up with a paid offer from another brand.[Coupert Help Center, Sep 2026] (opens the source)
Coupert's terms, updated in October 2026, say it stands down when another affiliate already has credit, but once the shopper clicks one of its features it routes them through its own affiliate link, which can change who gets the commission.[Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source) The same terms say that redirect can run while the shopper is already on your site, in a background tab that opens and closes by itself.[Coupert, Oct 2026] (opens the source)
What does it cost you?
Every order where it applies a code gives away the discount, and the shopper was usually already at your checkout with a full basket. If it's in your affiliate program, the same order can also pay it commission under last-click attribution, on top of the discount, whoever actually brought the shopper.
So the cost is the discount plus any commission on orders that would have happened anyway, and the codes it spreads keep working until you replace them.

What Benson does about it
- Sees Coupert sessions on your storefront, and measures their conversion rate, order value and discount depth against everyone else's.
- Hides Coupert's pop-up on your storefront pages, by rules you set.
- Checkout Policies: in sessions where a coupon extension was seen, only the codes on your allowlist work at Shopify checkout.
- Attribution integrity: flags orders where an extension's affiliate click landed after the shopper arrived from someone else.
