AI shopping agent
Jump to a section
In short
Software that shops on a person's behalf, browsing stores, filling carts and entering codes, sometimes all the way to payment.
What it means
An AI shopping agent acts on a shopper's instructions instead of only answering questions. Some work through a store's own pages in a browser they control; others order through a platform's checkout. Google says Chrome's auto browse can apply discount codes while shopping, and pauses before purchases.[Google, Jan 2026] (opens the source)
On your store
A shopper tells their browser's agent to buy your best-selling candle with any working code. It opens your store, adds the candle, tries codes in your discount field and stops at payment for approval.
Why it matters
Agentic browsers run a full browser engine and fire your analytics tags, so GA4 counts their sessions as real visitors, as Seer Interactive points out.[Seer Interactive, Jul 2026] (opens the source) Codes from AI are often wrong. In a September 2026 study by SimplyCodes, a coupon site, 59% of the AI-suggested promo codes it could check failed.[SimplyCodes, Sep 2026] (opens the source)
