In short
Any partner a store pays commission for sending sales: content sites, creators, voucher and cashback sites, and browser extensions.
What it means
An affiliate publisher is a partner in a store's affiliate program that promotes the store and is paid commission on the orders credited to it. Publishers range from content and review sites and creators to voucher sites, cashback and loyalty sites, and browser extensions. Networks set rules for how publishers may earn a click. On your store
Your program has a fashion blog, three creators, a cashback site and a coupon extension. Any of them can be credited for the same shopper's order, and only one gets paid.
Why it matters
In the PMA's industry study, cashback, loyalty and rewards publishers took 35% of US affiliate spend in 2024, coupon sites 10% and content affiliates 16%.[Affiverse (PMA study), Jun 2025] (opens the source) Publishers that start a visit and publishers that arrive late in it compete for the same commission, so your mix decides what you pay for.
