What Avast SafePrice does on your store

Avast SafePrice shows deals when a shopper lands on your store and, on some stores, offers to apply every code at checkout. Its offers come from CouponFollow, and it earns affiliate commission when shoppers click.

In short

Where does it get your codes?

Avast's products policy, updated in July 2026, says SafePrice checks the page a shopper is on against a list of offers obtained from CouponFollow or Ciuvo.[Avast, Jul 2026] (opens the source) CouponFollow is the coupon site behind the Cently extension.[CouponFollow, Oct 2026] (opens the source)

How does it make money from your orders?

Its Chrome listing says SafePrice takes part in affiliate programs and may earn commission when shoppers click links in the extension.[Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) When a shopper clicks an offer, Avast says the request is processed by CouponFollow's operator, NextGen Shopping.[Avast, Jul 2026] (opens the source) If it's in your affiliate program, an order after one of those clicks can be credited to it under last-click attribution, whoever actually sent the shopper.

What does it do in a shopper's session?

On some stores SafePrice shows a 'Code' badge while the shopper browses, then a pop-up on the checkout page with an 'Apply all codes' button that enters the codes automatically.[Avast Support, Apr 2025] (opens the source) The AVG version's listing says coupons are applied at checkout automatically.[Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source)

Its Chrome Web Store listing showed 4,000,000 users in October 2026.[Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) The same extension under the AVG brand showed 1,000,000 users on its own Chrome listing.[Chrome Web Store, Oct 2026] (opens the source) Avast's support page from March 2025 says it has ended Firefox and Opera support.[Avast Support, Mar 2025] (opens the source)

In December 2019 Mozilla, Opera and then Google pulled Avast SafePrice from their stores after researcher Wladimir Palant showed it uploaded detailed browsing profiles; it later returned to Chrome.[Almost Secure (Wladimir Palant), Dec 2019] (opens the source)

What does it cost you?

Every order where it applies a code gives away the discount, and the shopper was usually already at your checkout with a full basket. If it's in your affiliate program, the same order can also pay it commission under last-click attribution, on top of the discount, whoever actually brought the shopper.

So the cost is the discount plus any commission on orders that would have happened anyway, and the codes it spreads keep working until you replace them.

What Benson does about it

  • Benson's detector doesn't recognise Avast SafePrice yet. The code check and attribution integrity still cover what it does to your codes and commission.
  • Attribution integrity: flags orders where an extension's affiliate click landed after the shopper arrived from someone else.

Can you get your store removed?

No published route. Avast publishes no merchant opt-out or code-removal process for SafePrice; its FAQ ends with the general consumer support form.[Avast Support, Apr 2025] (opens the source) CouponFollow, where its codes come from, does publish one: its support contact form, with 'Remove a code' chosen from the dropdown.[CouponFollow Help, Apr 2022] (opens the source)
